Preparing students for today, tomorrow and eternity

Friday Blue Notes

April 16, 2010

Mission Project - Our collections in chapel are for a school that is being built in Liberia, 90 miles from Monrovia. It will cost $10,000 to complete the school. This will make it possible for over 150 students to have a place to be educated and also learn about Jesus and His forgiving love. We are joining with all the other Lutheran schools in Maryland to make this school a reality.
Open House - The next one is this coming Wednesday, April 21, from 7-9 P.M. We are backing off a little with all the food but still need folks around so there is a sense of strong parental support. There will be another one on May 12 at the same time. Pray for visitors and especially that some families who need to hear about Jesus' love, will attend and decide to enroll at Advent.
ZOOmobile - The big day is a week from today, April 23. Kindergarten students will meet with the older CDC students for their traveling zoo experience. Later the First through Fourth grades will be given their demonstration. We will even have a guest class from St. Paul's Lutheran, Kingsville attend. I can't wait to see the ZOOmobile critters.
Next PTL - Our next meeting is on the 5th of May at 7 P.M. It is the last one of the year and will also be the election of officers for the 2010-2011 school year.
Flea Market - Reserve the date - June 5th. This is going to be a big project and can be a real P.R. blessing for the school. It will also be a chance for the school and church folks to work side by side and get to know one another better. I hope you will be able to donate some time and energy to make this a real success. Be sure to tell everyone you know about our plans for the day so lots of people attend and have a good time. Pray for good weather.
End of Year Field Trip - Plans are still in the works with June 1st as the number one choice for a date and May 27th as the second choice. Students and their parents or parents' substitutes are all invited. Students are paid for through their activity fee. Adults will pay what ever the cost comes out to be. Only a couple of people cast a vote for the suggested itineraries and those were split. After considering the length of travel time and traffic patterns from D.C. at the afternoon time of day, it has been decided to do the Baltimore trip. The plan at this point is morning at Port Discovery, Lunch and time at Ft. McHenry, and afternoon show at the I-Max. We still cannot get information about what is showing, but the person we talked to thought it might be "Shrek 4." We need to hear if that is agreeable to all even thought it is not an educational activity. I would suggest to not play up Shrek too much with your child in case that is not the film we get to see.
